How often should centrifuges be maintained and serviced?
It’s generally divided into daily maintenance, regular maintenance, and annual professional inspections, applicable to high-speed, low-speed, and refrigerated Centrifuges. Here’s the schedule:
1. Daily maintenance (after each use)
●Wipe the Centrifuge chamber, rotor, and tube rack with 75% alcohol to remove sample residues and prevent bacterial growth.
●Check if the rotor and centrifuge tubes are cracked or deformed. For frequently used tubes, focus on checking if the tube walls are thinning (Avoid breakage during future use.).
●Ensure the rotation speed drops to zero and the rotor stops before turning off the power. Arrange the rotor neatly and keep the chamber ventilated and dry.
2. Regular maintenance (every 3 months)
●Run the machine at low speed without load to check for unusual noises. If there’s noise, check if the rotor is improperly installed, if there’s foreign matter in the chamber, or if parts are loose.
●For refrigerated centrifuges: Clean the air filter of the cooling system to remove dust and debris (to prevent blockage and maintain cooling efficiency).
●Lubricate the rotor lid latches and chamber door hinges with a small amount of special lubricant monthly (to prevent jamming or rust).
●Check if the rotor lid seal and chamber door seal are 老化,cracked, or deformed. Replace them promptly if they don’t seal properly.
●Add special high-speed bearing grease to maintainable bearing systems every 3 months (to avoid wear from dry friction).
●For refrigerated centrifuges: Use a tachometer to check the deviation between actual and set speeds, and ensure temperature control accuracy.
3. Professional inspection (every year)
●Annual full inspection by technicians: Include rotor balance testing, circuit system insulation testing; for refrigerated centrifuges, check cooling system pressure and evaluate compressor performance.
●Unscheduled inspection triggers: Stop and inspect immediately if the machine vibrates violently, makes abnormal noises, or alarms frequently. After handling highly corrosive or radioactive samples, perform deep cleaning and anti-corrosion treatment on the chamber and rotor.
Notes
●Adjust maintenance frequency flexibly: For industrial centrifuges used frequently (e.g., over 8 hours daily), shorten intervals (e.g., monthly maintenance to every 2 weeks).
●Keep maintenance records: Document the date, content, and replaced parts each time for tracking equipment status and predicting faults.
